Distilleries:
Cognac - The wonderful town where many Cognacs, including Martell and Hennessey, are still produced.
Pineau - It is worth driving through the vineyards and seeing this fortified wine, often served as an aperatif, being produced.
For the Energetic:
Velorail - Step aboard your own pedal-powered train at Confolens and you will get a fantastic view of the Charentais and Limousin countryside.
Golf - For the golfers out there, there are a few golf courses at Angouleme, Poitiers and Saint Junien.
Kayaking - During the summer it is possible to go canoeing along the Charente from Ruffec.
Horse Riding - The Boutiers Equestrian Farm, only 2 kilometres away, organises horse riding, jumping & trekking.
Seaside Resorts & Beautiful Spots:
La Rochelle - A cosmopolitan town with culture, shopping, sandy beaches and fantastic fish restaurants alike. The aquarium here is also worth a visit.
Royan - Another beautiful seaside town with a golden beach and tasty restaurants.
Marais Poitevin (Green Venice) - The second largest wetland in France with miles of beautiful canals.
Theme Parks:
Futuroscope - A giant hi-tech & futuristic theme park. Pricey, but certainly a full day out.
Zoos:
La Vallee des Singes - A unique animal park with 350 monkeys living freely. Each summer there are new arrivals, and you can participate at feeding times.
Zoodyssee - A different zoo with 60 European species set in the beautiful Chizé forest.
